Who are we?
U.S. Americans say “YES!” to Peace and "NO!" to a Culture of War
We are a group of concerned U.S. Americans who live in and around Tübingen. We vary in age, education and profession, but we agree that the U.S.has been on a dangerous, destructive path.
We call for foreign and domestic policies based on the long-term interests of all world citizens.
Sustainable policies are inevitably reached only through con-census. We favor policies based on cooperation with international organizations and within the limits of international laws, which the US was decisively involved in creating.
We join a long U.S. American tradition in calling for an end to policies of empire. We reject the militarization of our economy and our foreign policy.
Until election year 2008, the main focus of our initiative has been determined by protest against the Iraq War:
- Support for the Military Counseling Network
- Bammental (Heidelberg)
- Support for Iraq Veterans against the War
- Fundraiser for Conscientious Objector Agustin Aguayo winner of Stuttgart Peace Prize 2007
- Sponsoring anti-recruitment speakers
- Film discussions and public speaking events
- Participation in demonstrations
- Info tables and dissemination of military materials
A positive future!
In response to the 2008 election and the financial crisis, we aim to broaden our initiatives to encompass the concept of a mutually responsible world community. Military dominance is fundamentally a barrier to the concept of a peaceful world society, so military issues remain crucial. But other areas of concern also motivate us:Sustainable communities
environment, food, water, energy, work, education, health care, enough for allCivil rights
voting reform, no Patriot Act, media, gun controlNetworking with other groups
forums, discussions, direct democracy, action!Lobby efforts to apply civil society pressure
letter-writing, email campaigns
All of these concerns are connected. The TPA vision is to form co-operative working groups of U.S. Americans to include both exploration but also active participation to bring about the changes required for a mutually supportive world community.
U.S. Americans abroad have won global perspectives. Each participant simply will contribute what s/he is able to do to add to the collective effort. A caring society needs
